Inside a little Cairo apartment, Howeida Nageh is dicing some tomatoes in her kitchen. Her 3 sons have arrived home from faculty and they are hungry. Nonetheless, the sole food available is these tomatoes and a chunk of bread -- and this can be the boys' only meal for the day.

"Things are too expensive," says Nageh, whose husband left her to boost her 3 boys alone. "I used to take 2 onions and cut them over 2 tomatoes, cook and eat them. Currently the price of onions has increased -- instead of using 2, three or four onions, I currently simply take one and select the littlest one," adds Nageh, whose largest supply of income is the $thirty a month she receives from the government.
